A deep scholarly tradition of urban research emanating from the University has informed a number of key urban policy decisions and shaped several signature urban policy initiatives during the first term of the Obama Administration. Harris Alums Erika Poethig, the Acting Assistant Secretary for Policy Development at U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and Rob Collinson, an analyst in the Office of Policy Development & Research at HUD, will offer insights into the ways in which academic research supports and shapes the urban policy development process, and specifically how the University, and Chicago as a policy laboratory, have made lasting contributions to federal urban policy.
