Institute of Politics Summer in Washington: Seeking Alumni Volunteers

Find out how alumni can participate in the Institute of Politics growing Summer in Washington program.

Every summer, the Institute of Politics (IOP) brings more than 70 IOP-Metcalf interns to DC to work in political and public service sectors. The Summer in Washington Program (SIW) aims to 1) Support the interns during their time in DC, 2) engage with alumni and friends of the IOP, and 3) bring the IOP to DC every summer. The 10-week SIW program is aims to foster interaction between current students and alumni.

The Institute invites alumni to consider participating in a number of ways:

  • ATTEND one of the IOP's events in Washington
  • MENTOR a UChicago student via our alumni-student mentorship program.
  • HOST …
    • a group of interns for a site visit or lunch seminar at your workplace.
    • an intern in your home, if you are able.
  • ORGANIZE a social activity with students and alumni, like a bike tour or picnic.
The SIW program is a great opportunity for alumni to connect with University of Chicago students and engage with the UChicago Institute of Politics. For many IOP interns last year, engaging with alumni was one of the most meaningful elements of the summer Summer in Washington experience.

If you are interested in participating this summer, please fill out this form. Please feel free to contact Haleigh Miller, the IOP's summer’s Summer in Washington student coordinator, at [email protected], if you have any further thoughts or questions.

The DC Alumni Club and the Institute of Politics hope to see you in DC this summer!
